Engineer Hydrology

Report To : Sr. Construction Engineer

Purpose :

This position supports the activities of Pit Dewatering by conducting and supervising field projects, data collection activities, and the data which they produce and ensures that they meet stringent scientific quality standards.

Essential Duties :

  • Comply with PTNNT Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
  • Comply with Mine Operations Group Operating Philosophy, Decision Priorities and Core Guiding Principles.
  • Responsible for the collection, compilation, and reduction of all hydrologic monitoring and water quality data from the Batu Hijau pit area.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office computer software to perform daily office tasks.
  • Compile and prepare hydrologic data, activities, and observations for a written monthly report.
  • Prepare accurate graphics for presentation of hydrologic data.
  • Specifically responsible for water level data collection, drilling supervision, and logistical support as required for pit dewatering.
  • Performing weekly water level data collection combined with pit dewatering pumping volumes.
  • Maintain accurate and complete hydrologic database.
  • General understanding of hydrogeologic principles.
  • General understanding of dewatering equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrated understanding of drilling practices and procedures.
  • Understanding and use of P&Ids.
  • Understanding of piping theory and fluid flow.
  • Safe and competent operation of four-wheel drive light vehicles.
  • Demonstrated communication and information seeking abilities.
  • Responsible for providing the Senior Hydrologic Engineer with constructive feed back and criticism for improving the Batu Hijau Hydrology/Dewatering Program.
  • May be required to travel to and assist local sites.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum – B. S. degree in a relevant area of Hydrology, Geology, or Engineering
  • two-three years of experience, preferably in a mining environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary.  
  • Experience with drilling practices or pump operation
